FAQ
Are you nuts?
Perhaps. No more crazy than most people in this crazy crazy world.
What is allowed and what is not allowed on the diet?
Anything is allowed on the diet. The FFD is a way to have fun with whatever diet you want to do? Or you can custom design a plan just for you and let The FFD help make it fun to do.
Therefore, whatever popular diet you want to try, The FFD can be a fun way to do a boring calorie diet, a boring Atkins diet, Zone, whatever.
In that sense then The FFD is like a shell of fun you can put on top of any popular method of losing weight – sort of like the cherry on top of the ice cream cone (bad analogy I know).
What qualifies you to give dieting advice to others?
I am a human being I suppose. Other than that, pure experience. I am a beer drinking slob. I am die hard football fan. The football doesn’t put the calories on me insofar as the beer I would drink while watching football. So, I am taking what I love, football, and transcending the unhealthy aspects of it. And why can’t I do that? This is America isn’t it?
Plus, I refuse to give up football. I refuse to give up the beer too. There must be a way to have both.
In fact, I noticed
What is your favorite football team?
Hands down it is the Pittsburgh Steelers.
What is your favorite beer?
Well, my favorite go-to beer is Miller Lite. My favorite cheap beer is Pabst Blue Ribbon. My favorite beer snob beer is Anchor Steam. More often than not, you will find Miller Lite in my garage refrigerator.
Is the picture in the The FFD header a before or after picture?
No. It is a “before” picture. The problem then is not posting a before picture and an after picture. The problem is my “now” picture. In the picture above I was probably at 215. I topped out this year at well, we don’t need to get into the specifics. There was a time around college when I was 195. That is where I want to get – or at least around 200. That will take some work.
Did you actually play football?
Yes. I pretty much sucked and rode the pine in high school. I was sort of the team clown though, so that was fun.
Can I wait to do this along with my favorite football team’s schedule?
Yes you can. But, why wait.
Do you Yo-Yo Diet?
No. If did, my weight would stay relatively the same wouldn’t it? Instead, I am a “YO-yo” dieter (notice the caps). This means when my weight goes up, my YO, it goes up much more than the comparative downswing, my little healthy yo. Do you get it yo? I need to become a yo-YO dieter instead. That is my long period of relative health must far outweigh the occasional drunken brouhaha.
What popular diets have you tried and which ones seemed to work best?
I gave a go at Atkin’s, The Zone, Carbohydrate Addict’s and South Beach. The only one I recall having significant success was The Carbohydrate Addict’s Diet. The other ones, I couldn’t seem to stay on for that long.
Are you an emotional eater?
Yes. That is my biggest problem when it comes to weight management. I never realized I seemed to graze on chips, pretzels and what have you as a way to deal with stress. Now I realize it is much healthier for me to go punt a poodle!
What approach are you taking to your Football Fan’s Diet Season?
I am setting a caloric ceiling at 1,800 calories for Preseason. I will up this for the regular season. Make it even tougher for the post-season, et al.
That being said, I am taking a “carb conscious” approach to attaining this daily caloric ceiling (aka, game day objective). When possible, I will eschew white bread and all enriched flour products. Whole grain will be my game.
Will you drink beer on your Football Fan’s Diet season?
Hell yes. Even though I am a beer lover and susceptible to the occasional six month bender, I will have to limit my beer intake to make my Football Fan’s Diet Season successful. What I have noticed is that even if I have a couple brews, my appetite and my healthy thinking tend to go out the window.
So, Rum and Diet Coke isn’t all that bad is it? Scotch and Soda for the lawyerly types I suppose.
The best solution is to give it up and reward yourself with at least a field goal if you make it through a day without your beer or whatever. However, I think to forbid any food or beverage completely is a recipe for going back to one’s old slovenly lifestyle.
